UC560 Translation Patterns for Speed Dials

Hi - we have a client with a Cisco UC 560 and they want the ability to dial *xxx (any three digits after *) and have that translate to an outside line.

So basically if I dial *100 it dials 222-1234 for example. *101 dials 1-800-553-2447 for example.

Is that possible?

Hello,

You can do this. The feature is known as abbreviated dial. In CCA you need to first configure the speed dials under the local directory option. When you create the local directory entries the order in which they appear is very important(ie local directory entry 1 is speed dial 1, etc). To access the speed dial the user leaves the phone on hook, dials 1(for speed dial 1), and then presses the abbreviated dial softkey to complete the call.

We use 1xx as our internal numbers. When I press 1 then followed by the directory number correlation, it gives a busy signal. Is there a way to change what local directory entry key uses?

Are you pressing the abbreviated dial softkey after entering the speed dial number? The feature operation is: while the phone is onhook press the speed dial number, then hit the abbreviated dial softkey.

When I hit the directory button on the phone, I have three options regarding speed dials and directories...

Speed Dials - Local Directory - then Local Speed Dials

The Speed Dials only contains two entries of 250 called PAGE & **6 labeled as PARK. On the phones, we have setup a line button so that users can hit it and page all phones in the 250 paging group or PARK a call.

The Local Directory contains all local users and manually added ones from the CCA - Local Directories entry.

The Local Speed Dials contains all 32 manually entered speed dials from the CCA under System Speed Dials.

Now when I press 1 and hit ABBDIAL it dials 250. If I press 2 and hit ABBDIAL it'll park the call. So we manually added that 250 & **6 under the phone in CCA then Speed Dials tab. As a test, I tried adding another one on line 3 but it's not showing up on the phone.

These are 7931 phones. Under the Line Assignments of the phone, we have them maxed out using all 24. Under the Speed Dials tab we only have one additional entry. That uses all the lines on the phone. Because of that, are we unable to add additonal speed dials? I would think they would still add but just not show on the side panel of the phone.

I tested this in my lab and it worked fine with a 7931.

You have to add the entries in the local directory. If you have maxed out the buttons on the phones, the speed dials will only show on the speed dial menu entry.

Please post the following so I can verify your configuration:

show telephony-service all

You should see entries like the following that are correlated to the button you press in abbreviated dialing:

directory entry 1 100 name test

Hey John,

When I run

#show telephony-service all | i directory entry

it comes back with...

directory entry 1 123-1111 name Test Cell

directory entry 2 123-2222 name Test Phone

However; when I dial the abbdial 1 it's not dialing the 123-1111. Attached is the log file.

Thanks for providing that information. If you are trying to dial an external number, you need to include your outbound steering digit in front of the number in the directory. Please add your outbound steering digit and test again.

I will not be able to test until tomorrow unfortunently. Without the outbound digit (9), wouldn't it still attempt to dial but just error out?

It seems like it's looking in the wrong directory as ABBDIAL + 1 was dialing 250 which is our Paging number.

Regardless - I'll be able to test this more tomorrow.

I opened a Small Business TAC case and they said it uses the speed dial tab of the phone under CCA to determine the ABBDIAL... not the local directory.

This would make sense as we have speed dial one setup to dial 250 to activate PAGING and **6 setup as speed dial 2 for call parks.

So apparently the only way we can add more is going under each phone and updating the speed dials. Not sure how your environment would be showing different though?

I know the abbreviated dialing works via the local directory. It doesn't require you to dial any * codes.
