I am trying to setup QuickVPN on my RV180W and having no luck. My client log shows "Remote gateway wasn't reached" "Failed to connect". The client is Win7 64-bit. I have created the firewall rule for icmpv4 on my windows 7 client but still no luck. I checked with my ISP and they say all ports are open. I have created the VPN user.

Good morning
Hi Lynn, thanks for using our forum, my name is Johnnatan and I am part of the Small business Support community. When you are configuring a remote VPN connection, there are some steps that are lost on the path.
Here you can see those steps.

Hi Jonathan,
I had found this post previously and made all the changes / configurations settings as instructed but I still get the remote gateway wasn't reached error. I have tried on both an XP machine and a Win7 machine, following all the steps in the post above. Is there anyway to trace what's happening or do you have any further trouble shooting steps I can take? The router is brand new.
Thank You,
Lynn

Hi Lynn, Could you share with us a little more about your issue, I mean some screenshots of the configuration (be careful with confidential data such public ip and passwords). It would be very useful for us.

Jonathan, Sorry for the delay I have limited access to my clients equipment. I found a setting in remote management that was incorrect, fixed it and now I have goten a little further. The tunnel is now being created but I am failing on the ping. I have confirmed the windows 7 firewall rule as indicated in the doc link you provided is on my client but as you can see from the logs below it is still not working. I also notice that the QuickVPN client dashboard still shows me connected even though it has failed at the client. Any thoughts on what is causing this problem?

It seems that in all of these forums, this same problem is always left unresolved. The conversation always ends when some one post a log showing the failed to ping messege. This is apparently a know issue with these routers and cisco does not know how to fix it.

Hi Andrew
Did you disable Block WAN Request in your router? yo can do it following these steps:
Depending on the device Remote Management needs to be on.
Go Firewall> Basic Settings and ensure to:
* Disable Block WAN Request
* Enable Remote Management

hello,
when you say basic settings do you mean attack prevention? the RV180W doesnt have a basic setting option.
thanks
12-11-2013 07:48 AM
Yes, in attack Prevention, enable "Respond to Ping on WAN "

Hello,
yes i have enabled this and tested and it didnt work.
just had cisco support webex in, they also enabled icmp on wan and tested and didnt work.
they did however successfully Quick VPN into my device so they confirmed my config is ok, ive tested this from windows 7 x64 and x86 and didnt connect but they have tested in xp sp3 and it connected, tried compatability mode while they were connected but the vpn wouldnt connect again, will have to builkd a xp machine and test myself, everything i have is either 2008 r2 or win 7.
thanks

this is just silly!
ive been reading posts from 2009 we are now in 2013 and this problem still excists. i buy a router with quickVPN, cannot get it to connect due to the ping on windows 7 x64\x86 and i have also tried windows XP.
nutting.
i have tried everything i have read over the last week and still i cannot get a quickvpn connection running. Cisco support confirmed my router config is ok as they had a quickvpn connection from their lab XP machine running for a few minutes.

checked ipsec services.
disabled and enable firewall
checked for single network card (i mean common, how many portable devices only have 1 nic?)
opened icmp on firewall
enabled icmp respond on WAN.
added quickvpn to firewall
enable remote managment (was already enabled and has to be for qvpn to work)
used IP instead of dns
running in compatabuilty mode for vista and xp
cant remember all the things ive checked and changed over the last week.
there is so many different apparent fix's and no concreate info from Cisco.
advertise it as a VPN router but infact only thing that works is pptp (shake my fist at you Cisco)
any help would be greatly appreciated as im close to returning this as not fit for purpose.
thanks in advance.

I finally gave up on this Andrew. Cisco tech support is absolutely no help at all. I would challenge anyone in Cisco to find one person that has successfully made VPN work on a Windows Vista or later OS. I happen to have an old XP laptop that will connect with no problem, but I've tried Vista, Win7, and Win8 with no luck. I found that running in compatibility mode on Vista also will not work, but I took that same machine and reloaded XP on it and it works fine. I put Vista back on it and change all the setting that Cisco suggests and it will not work. It is not hardware.
