All,
We use Cisco WebEx to facilitate our local government council meetings. Public callers are required to use the call-in number in order to speak during a meeting. Prior to 4th Quarter, 2020/1st Quarter 2021 updates, the *6 requirement was not in place and meetings would flow particularly well.
We are finding that the *6 addition is just too confusing for our callers and would prefer to remove that step in the process. Is there an option to do that?

Hi,
In Webex Control Hub go to Cisco Webex Meetings Sites >> Configure site.webex.com >> Common Settings >> and uncheck Enable users to mute or unmute telephone audio by pressing *6 paramter.

but then dial-in users that haven't joined via the app won't be able to unmute themselves at all
Take a look at the Moderated Unmute feature which allows the host to directly unmute participants vs the current request to unmute. It is targeted exactly at such use cases where the participants might not be able to unmute themselves. Just don't forget to make sure the feature is enabled when scheduling the meeting
Participants will see a note that in this meeting they can be unmuted by the host.
