Do we need to enable the avoid persistent non wifi interference check box to include the non wifi interference in the DCA calculation

Select the Avoid Persistent Non-WiFi Interference check box to enable the Cisco WLC to ignore persistent non-WiFi interference.
Non-wifi interference are non 802.11 devices. These devices include microwave ovens, cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, wireless video cameras, outdoor microwave links, wireless game controllers, Zigbee devices, fluorescent lights, WiMAX, and so on. Even bad electrical connections can cause broad RF spectrum emissions. These non-802.11 types of interference typically don't work cooperatively with 802.11 devices, and can cause significant loss of throughput. In addition, they can cause secondary effects such as rate back-off, in which retransmissions caused by interference trick the 802.11 devices into thinking that they should use lower data rates than appropriate.

Hi ;
This topic is quite confusing with the words
Step 6 Select the Avoid Foreign AP Interference check box to cause the controller's RRM algorithms to consider 802.11 traffic from foreign access points (those not included in your wireless network) when assigning channels to lightweight access points, or unselect it to disable this feature. For example, RRM may adjust the channel assignment to have access points avoid channels close to foreign access points. The default value is selected.
Step 7 Select the Avoid Cisco AP Load check box to cause the controller's RRM algorithms to consider 802.11 traffic from Cisco lightweight access points in your wireless network when assigning channels, or unselect it to disable this feature. For example, RRM can assign better reuse patterns to access points that carry a heavier traffic load. The default value is unselected.
Step 8 Select the Avoid Non-802.11a (802.11b) Noise check box to cause the controller's RRM algorithms to consider noise (non-802.11 traffic) in the channel when assigning channels to lightweight access points, or unselect it to disable this feature. For example, RRM may have access points avoid channels with significant interference from nonaccess point sources, such as microwave ovens. The default value is selected.
Step 9 Select the Avoid Persistent Non-WiFi Interference check box to enable the controller to ignore persistent non-WiFi interference.
these statements are contradicting each other

I too have a massive problem resolving the documentation.
"Avoid Persistent Non-WiFi Interference: DCA parameter that you can enable to allow the Cisco WLC to ignore persistent non-WiFi interference. " Source: Help file built into WLC.
"Step 9 Select the Avoid Persistent Non-WiFi Interference check box to enable the Cisco WLC to ignore persistent non-WiFi interference." Source: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/7-4/configuration/guides/consolidated/b_cg74_CONSOLIDATED/b_cg74_CONSOLIDATED_chapter_010000011.html
These just do not make any sense. Is the DOCUMENTATION backwards, or is the INTERFACE backwards? Or is the ALGORITHM backwards?

Hi team ;
We need to select the Avoid Persistent Non-WiFi Interference check box to enable the Cisco WLC to calculate persistent non-WiFi interference for the DCA calculation.

hi Sreejith,
your conclusion and what Megasmithers concludes are contradicting..
Any further findings on this ?

My only conclusion is that the documentation and the interface are contradictory.

Being the Cisco Support Forum, don't we have any final confirmation from Cisco regarding this ?

Indeed confusing.
Avoid Persistent Non-Wifi Interference: X Enabled
=> Meaning:
take measured persistent non-wifi interference into account during DCA calculations? Try to bypass interference
Bis
what's the difference between non-wifi interference and non-802.11a noise?

Totally agree with Megasmithers.
This is very confusing.
Maybe the box should say "yes" or "no"

Please select Avoid Persistent Non-WiFi Interference check box to enable the Cisco WLC to ignore persistent non-WiFi interference.

"Avoid Foreign AP interference"
I want DCA to avoid interference from Foreign APs, ie I want the WLC to select channels that are not being used by other AP's.
So what is the correct setting for "Avoid Foreign AP interference", checked or not checked box?
Regards,
J

This explanation from the manual is not clear at all.
Ignore as in "do not let the algorithm take Persistent Non-WiFi Interference into account" or "let the algorithm avoid Persistent Non-WiFi Interference to select a better channel"?

Can somebody please confirm this? Will checking 'Avoid Persistent Non-WiFi Interference' make the DCA to take into consideration the Persistent Non-WiFi Interference?
