3802 IOS Question

I have a 3802 that is currently running Mobility Express to act as a controller.

Does ME replace the traditional IOS?

I ask this because when I do a "show version" on the AP itself (not the controller) it just returns the ME version not the IOS version.

Is there any need or way to update the IOS on the  underlying APs?

I'd like to update or at least check to see if the underlying APs are running the latest IOS (ap3g3-k9w8-tar.153-3.JD at this time).

Thanks.

The lwapp image is when your AP joins a controller. The code you need to look at the the ME image which will also push the AP image to each access point.

That is correct. If the AP's were to join an AireOS controller, then what you really would want is the recovery image.

Mobility Express does runs a different version and is separate from the lightweight image. There is nothing to update other than the code.

Ok, so as long as I update the ME, I don't have to worry about the LWAPP image, it will be updated automatically?

Right, that's what i was getting at; The ME image will take care of the underlying IOS image for the APs.

Thanks.

Yes that is correct. ME has different AP images than AireOS so just wanted to clarify.

Gotcha.
When I look at the download page for the 3800 series AP it shows ap3g3-k9w8-tar.153-3.JD as the lightweight image. You're saying this would only be before the AP joins a controller, right?
