9120 AP logs

Hi,

I got a customer who is complaining about the connection (they are losing connection every here and then)

The AP is  C9120AXI. What i could see is a lot of weird logs:

Any idea what are these logs mean? 

The customer said that the AP was blinking red and blue for some minutes! Why should it do this?

  - Consider using advisory release on the controller , https://software.cisco.com/download/home/286284738/type/280926587/release/8.10.185.0 , the issue could be related to bug(s) ; I would consider upgrading important when such next generation APs are used on the now older aireos platform ,

Does the AP lose the CAPWAP connection to the WLC? if yes why?

What does it try to do here?

Blinking blue-red seems to be related to power issues, but these APs are prepared for that case and they reduce the radio chains in case of inssuficient power, and not behave like previos COS-3800/4800 that made weird things like dropping clients or disabling radios.

Regarding the disconnections, check this post to see if it helps.

This AP is powered by a power injector which can dilever 30w, so i don't think it is a power problem. The AP does not log anything about PoE!

The PC is not important in this situation, but it is the Ipad (many Ipads around 20 pieces)

I will try to use another Power injector.

What does "interfacing with unit 1" mean? This AP does not reloads or disconnect, but it is interesting to undrastand what does this log mean!?

1. You may think there's no radar in the area but you may be surprised at how often radar is actually used, even indoors,  For example: security motion sensors, door open motion sensors, lighting control motion sensors.  Sources close to buildings can include traffic speed cameras (high power, longer range).

2. Radar detection by APs is an imperfect art - the wider the channel width the higher the risk of false positive detections.  Even interfering WiFi can be mis-detected as radar.  Make sure the software is up to date as there have been numerous enhancements intended to reduce these false positives.  And to minimise them reduce channel width but there's obviously a compromise to be made there in terms of performance but the customer might appreciate steady reliable WiFi more than super fast WiFi.

I only get these logs on this AP (CAPWAP is restarting all  the time) It is not only about DFS!

I Have many APs at the same location only this one is maybe reporting DFS, can you take a closer look at the logs above. My concern here is CAPWAP that keeps restarting.

Well DFS is always going to scan after a CAPWAP restart so nothing surprising about that.
If CAPWAP restart is the real issue then you need to look at why.
Some things which immediately stand out:

Highest-recorded : 66 C

Does the AP have sufficient air-flow/cooling? I know they get hot but when it's getting that hot components tend to start failing.

apsw_watchdog: Unable to reach gateway for 300 seconds

If the AP is losing connectivity to the gateway for 5 minutes that's always going to trigger a CAPWAP restart!  Check switch logs, switch port stats, AP port stats.  The APs use ping and ARP for gateway detection so that means no ping or ARP response for 5 minutes!

And don't forget to update the code version.
