Access points keep losing their settings

We have several 5508 controllers and are experiencing similar problems on a few of them. They are working great for any AP that has been active for a while now. The problem is if I add any new AP (2702) or a older factory reset AP (1042). After I configure them, the AP will work but once the AP is rebooted it will drop all its settings and revert to factory default.

If I take a configured and working 1042 that has been online for several months (and rebooted many times) and factory reset it and then reconfigure it with the exact same settings, this problem will then start to happen.

We have been running version 8.1.102 for quite a while now.

There are several bugs for reboot issues check below few of them

1) IOS AP losing config after reboot when service compress-config is enable
CSCum68143

Description

Symptom:
IOS Access Point looses the config on reload when service compress-config is enabled .

Conditions:
Service compress-config enabled on the Access Point.

2)

Symptom:Access points on WLC lose their configuration and are reset to factory default.
The hostname is reset to AP<mac>. If the AP is FlexConnect and uses VLANs,
the VLAN mapping is lost.

Conditions:At the time when the AP is powecycled, it has run out of free DRAM (i.e. it has suffered from a memory leak.)

3)

Symptom:
AP 1142 Config loss after cold reboot

Conditions:
AP 1142 will lose all configs including the name if it has a cold reboot like a power outage, unplug the power supply, etc

Forcing the firmware back out to the affected APs seems to have resolved the issue

Solved changing the name of configuration file:

- In ROMMON mode - (Interrupt bootloader pressing Esc )

ap:  set CONFIG_FILE flash:/my_new_config_name.txt

ap:  boot

- In IOS -

... do some changes ...

ap> write mem

ap> reload

Done!
