I just install a new WLC into existing network. All are same model, Cisco 5520. I have configured the new WLC with same settings as the current WLC. But the new WLC still unable to see all APs. Please share me the guidance for this issue. TIA.

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

I need to add the new WLC as secondary WLC, and list some of the existing APs into it.

AP’s will only show up on a controller when it joins. If the ap’s are still on the primary controller, then you will see zero ap’s on the new controller you configured. Move one ap to the new controller using the high availability on the ap itself. Make sure that the time, country Coe is correct and you have licenses unless you specify secondary controller on the new one you created.

Hi Scott,

In the AP HA setup, I have set existing WLC as primary controller, and the new WLC as secondary controller. But the AP is still not shown in the new WLC.

If the AP can still "see" the primary controller then it has no reason to go to the secondary.

The easiest way to test this is to manually configure the AP to go to the new WLC by putting it into the "primary controller" slot.

Hi Leo, do you mean that one AP can be seen by only one controller?

For N+1 redundancy topology, how to do failover test?

If you want to do a failover test, reboot the primary WLC (or shut down the links to/from the WLC).

Hi Leo, do you mean that one AP can be seen by only one controller?

One AP can only be seen by one controller and it’s only the controller the ap is joined. Like I mentioned, configure the AP’s high availability to test and make sure at least an AP can join the controller. All this information is in the documentation for N+1, which also explains how failover works.

Did you move the APs to the new controller?  If you did, what error message appears on the logs of the AP?

No, I didn't. I just set existing WLC as primary, and new WLC as secondary controller.
