Adding a Virtual WLC to WCS

Is there anyway to add a Virtual WLC to the WCS?

When I try to add it, this error shows up: "Device type cannot be added to WCS"

NCS 1.2 version supports Virtual controller

Hi, the virtual controllers needs firmware 7.3. This however is not supported on WCS. It only supports up till 7.2.230 if i am not mistaken. We had to upgrade to NCS/Prime 1.2.

With each train of WLC, new SNMP MIBS/objects would be added for newer features & enhanced capabilities.

So using a management application running a lower version of code (in this case - WCS) won't be able to interpret the SNMP responses from the controller. Hence the failure.

WCS 7.0.230.0 (latest code) can only support up to WLC running 7.0.235.0 version.

The support of WLC 7.3 train starts only from Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2.x.x. So please use

Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2.x.x to successfully add the WLC to it & manage it.
