AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9 and radios

Hello all,

the AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9 is a dual-Band 802.11a/g/n. This means it can transmit both a, g and n, right? I did a load stat using the WCS on this AP, and I don't understand the grouping of the radios.

The WCS shows the AP twice, as a 802.11a/n and as a 802.11b/g/n. What is the actual radio that the stats are for? The a/n radio has much more clients than the b/g/n radio. How do I see what radio the clients use the most? The reason why I ask is because I have two AIR-LAP1131AG-E-K9 in the same room, and they have 5 clients each, but the 1142 has 14-16. I suppose it's cause the clients prefer the 802.11n radio when searching for wifi?

The stat options on the WLC (running sw 7.0.98.0) has no separate option for listing the n-radio - only a and b???  :

WCS will display the AP's based on their radio, so any dual band AP will have an 802.11a/n & 802.11b/g/n listing in WCS; this is because they are physically seperate radios, antennas, and processors.

As for clients chosing the 802.11n AP's this can be for a number of reasons; bandwidth, protocol, signal strength, etc...

So it's can be tough to predict or justify why a client selected the AP it chose, as for the stats though, I am not sure what specifically your looking for. If you are just looking to see which radio is busiest there is a WCS report that should give you that information.

If you convert it to run IOS then yes, you can configure it just like any other AP with multiple SSID and radio subinterfaces.
