Hello,
1. I am trying to configure 2802i using WLC3504. I connected the access point to the PoE port on the controller. I can see the access point mac id and the connected port number in Wireless-> Access points -> Direct APs.
But when I go to WLANs - > Advanced - > AP groups -> <My group> -> APs I don't see the access point there to add to the group.
Are there any extra steps that have to be performed here to see the AP?
2. I tried connecting the access point to using DB9 to RS232 serial cable (Speed: 9600, Data: 8 bits, parity: none, stop bits: 1bit, Flow control: none). The connection is established, but I don't see any prints from the access point.
Can someone please help me with this?
Thank you,
Sai.

I never work before with a 3504 but. if the AP is joined to WLC then you can check in default group and see if the AP is there.

Daniel,
Thank you for your early response, I did check in the default group too and I didn't see the AP there.
Thank you,
Kishore.

Hi @Sai2258
Ok it looks that the AP is not joined to the WLC. Can you share now the output of show version on your AP?
another question, what ip address has the AP?
07-29-2019 04:39 PM
Daniel,
As I mentioned in my original question,
2. I tried connecting the access point to using DB9 to RS232 serial cable (Speed: 9600, Data: 8 bits, parity: none, stop bits: 1bit, Flow control: none). The connection is established, but I don't see any prints from the access point.
the AP model is AIR-AP2802I-A-K9 V03 It has the default software in it.
I see repetitive DHCP discover packets and CDP packets from the AP mac address in Wireshark. I am assuming it did not receive any IP yet.
Thank you,
Sai.

What terminal software are u using?

Daniel,
I am using TeraTerm, I can see prints from WLC 3504 using same software.
Thank you,
Sai.

I changed the serial cable and able to see the prints from access points now. But still, I am having a hard time connecting the access point to the WLC.

First, you need to accept de License.
Second... the AP and your WLC are in the same network? If the AP are not getting IP Address try to configure it manually.
capwap ap ip address x.x.x.x x.x.x.x capwap ap ip default-gateway x.x.x.x
capwap ap primary-base <WLC-sysname> <IP-address>
08-02-2019 10:59 AM
I am able to connect and use the AP. @Daniel Ordóñez Flores, @patoberli and @Leo Laohoo thank you for your help.
12-31-2019 02:56 AM
Have you already added ip address in the AP?
ap_console > capwap ap ip address 192.168.1.11 => same with the WLC management ip
ap_console > capwap ap ip default-gateway 192.168.1.1 => (ip gateway for WLC)
