Thank you balaji, This is a new AP. I am trying to configure it and just set up ip add for the AP. The AP is standalone without connecting to WLC yet

If you like to convert to capwap follow below commands :

Log back into the AP

Go into AP Cisco Shell:
(Cisco Controller) > apciscoshell

Log back into the AP again
Go into enable mode:
(Cisco Controller) > en

Change to CAPWAP mode:
(Cisco Controller) > ap-type capwap

now it is not at the mode that allow us to type that commands.

it is like this:

The issue has not been resolved. When booting up, initially looks like coming into AP mode, but after while, it looks like coming into controller mode. That is why i labeled this question is resolved.

what is the version of code ?

Converting an AP from Mobility Express to CAPWAP Type

To convert a Mobility Express AP into a CAPWAP AP, you must change its ap-type from mobility-express to capwap, though the CLI, as given in this procedure:

  1. Connect to the Console Port, Telnet or SSH to the AP.

  2. Login to the Mobility Express controller console.

  3. In the Mobility Express controller console, use the command apciscoshell to connect to the AP console.

  4. Login to the AP console using the username Cisco and password Cisco. Both are case-sensitive.

  5. Enter enable.

  6. Enter the command ap-type capwap, and confirm .

Thank you very much. Issue resolve!

One more question, why it became Mobility Express?

Not sure - what WLC you have? never seen that before it convert automatically to ME.

If it came from Cisco like that then it was ordered with ME installed.

If you bought it from somebody else then they could have converted it to ME.
