AP3802 not broadcast SSID with Mobility Express

Hello,

I have a Cisco Aironet 3802 with the image of Mobility Express 8.5.101, I created 3 SSIDs that are not spreading, I already enabled Broadcast SSID in the 3 networks but none is shown, nor like hidden, What could be the problem?

Ok that sounds like a POE problem.

3802 will only power the radios with POE+ (30W) and it needs CDP or LLDP to negotiate that.

Does the switch support 30W 802.3at (POE+) on the port (and enough power available) and do you have CDP enabled?

If not it will fallback to 802.3af with 15.4W - enough to run the AP without any radios so that you can troubleshoot and configure it only.

In that case you'll see in the boot logs and on the GUI that the AP is running in low power mode.

"show power inline" and "show cdp neigh detail" on the switch.

Rather than concentrating on logs which might prove to be unimportant fix those things which we know are essential first.

And ME only works in flex mode so that is by design.

Without CDP (or LLDP) it will NOT work - end of story.

So make sure you have that working and see if it solves the problem.  Your testing so far suggests that it will solve the problem.

If not then move onto other possible problems.

Yes, the problem was PoE, my switch only support 802.3af (PoE) 15.4w, I connected to power injector that support 30W and the SSID started to broadcast.

Thank you so much for the support

Are these access points 3802i or 3802e?  If it is the later, then you need to have external antennas.  You should also be able to see the radio states from the gui to see if the radios are up or down.

Hi Scott, thank you for your answer, I have a 3802i, the SKU AIR-AP3802I-A-K9, Where can I see the status of the radios if they are up or down?

Hi,

I have a similar problem. After migrating from CAPWAP to MEX. My AP AIR-AP2802I is not broadcasting the Wi-Fi network. Shows the network for 3 minutes at boot. My log as shown had some errors. I wonder why the radio is switching from local to Flexconnect.

Hi Scott, thank you for your answer, I have a 3802i, the SKU AIR-AP3802I-A-K9, Where can I see the status of the radios if they are up or down?

Hi everyone,

I disconnected the AP from the Switch where I had it connected, a Catalyst 3750, and connected it directly to a cable modem, energizing it with Power injector and it worked, it broadcast the SSIDs, I think the problem is the configuration that I have in the switch

Will you have an example of how to configure the swtich?

Ok that sounds like a POE problem.

3802 will only power the radios with POE+ (30W) and it needs CDP or LLDP to negotiate that.

Does the switch support 30W 802.3at (POE+) on the port (and enough power available) and do you have CDP enabled?

If not it will fallback to 802.3af with 15.4W - enough to run the AP without any radios so that you can troubleshoot and configure it only.

In that case you'll see in the boot logs and on the GUI that the AP is running in low power mode.

"show power inline" and "show cdp neigh detail" on the switch.

What about my case. My POE Switch supports 30W in the 802.3at but probably does not have CDP and LLDP. Because in the GUI I do not see them in the status. The strange thing is that the SSID appears on the air for less than 3 minutes and goes down. Although there is an enable status in the GUI.

What does the following log entries mean?

AP70B3.17A2.8FAA#show ip interface brief

Rather than concentrating on logs which might prove to be unimportant fix those things which we know are essential first.

And ME only works in flex mode so that is by design.

Without CDP (or LLDP) it will NOT work - end of story.

So make sure you have that working and see if it solves the problem.  Your testing so far suggests that it will solve the problem.

If not then move onto other possible problems.

Yes, the problem was PoE, my switch only support 802.3af (PoE) 15.4w, I connected to power injector that support 30W and the SSID started to broadcast.

Thank you so much for the support
