I currently have two 3650 switches (IP Base; with AP licences; not stacked), ten 3800 802.11ac Wave 2 Access Points with Mobility Express Licenses and one WLC 5508 with 12 APs licensed. The 3650 are MGIG capable.
I would like to be able to switch the traffic at 5Gbit, so Local Mode on the WLC is not an option.
I see the following options:
Option 1:
Use Mobility Express on the 3800; connect APs to the 3650 (5 Gbit/s); any AP can become a Master controller so availability is high; but it does lack mdns and the controls I have with the other options
Option 2:
Make each 3650 a controller, and add them to the same mobility and radio domain; that way, if one of the 3650 goes down, I still have a network.
Option 3:
Use 5508 and setup APs as Flexconnect
Are there any other options?
What would be the best wireless configuration with this gear that provides the best availability and performance?
