Bringing down radio interface when uplink goes down.

We have ap1100's and ap1200's deployed with dsl uplinks. When the uplink goes down, the ap still broadcasts it's ssid. Even worse, a host may associate with the ap, although it cannot get an ip address. It would be nice if we could run tcl shell and have a script bring the interface down when the gateway is no longer pingable. I don't anticipate this functionality in the ap1200 series IOS. Does anyone know if this type of functionality is already implemented in IOS.

This is available in the IOS. If you use the browser interface, under the network interface, settings tab, the AP role has different selections for when the Ethernet shuts down. You can have the radio shutdown when it loses ethernet connectivity. Hope this helps,

Chris

Thanks for the response Chris. I'm going to check it out further when I get to work. One possible problem I see is that if a dsl uplink loses sync, not power, the interface might still look up. I'll have to test this. Thanks again Chris!

We don't have the web interface turned on, so I didn't find anything there. All I can find in the command reference is a linktest command, but that tests the link between the radio and a client computer. Do you know what the command might be?

You can set it to be a repeater or to shutdown:

interface Dot11Radio0

station-role root fallback [repeater | shutdown]
