Is the max wireless speed on the cisco 881w 54mbps even though it has 802.11n hardware? What about the 891w?
12-09-2010 08:40 PM
Louis,
881W does support N speeds.. this needs extra configuration.. that is...
METHOD 1
========
THE SSID should be either OPEN AUTHENTICATION WITH NO ENCRYPTION WITH ALL MCS CHANNELS ENABLED.
OR
METHOD 2
==========
THE SSID SHOULD USE WPA-2 Enterprize or WPA-2 PSK and AES as the encrtption WITH ALL MCS CHANNELS ENABLED..
Here is the link to do it..
***** WPA - TKIP will not yeild N speeds..
Lemme know if this answered your question.

Hi Prasanth,
With just G-Radio enabled, the maximum that we can get is around 144Mbps.. with A-Radio enabled we can get 270 or 300. I guess the speed what you are getting is pretty good using the G-Radio.

Do I have option to do this
ssid Ownage ==== Using Radio A/N == 300Mbps === Vlan 1
ssid Ownage 2 ==== Using Radio G === 54Mbps ==== Vlan 10
Can i be able to seprate by vlan and radio type ?
12-20-2010 09:27 PM
Hi,
VLAN mapping is for SSID not for Radio.. yes you can do that by mapping the SSID with Desired Radios..

So your config should look like this..
ssid Ownage ==== Using Radio A/N == 300Mbps === Vlan 1
ssid Ownage 2 ==== Using Radio G === 54Mbps ==== Vlan 10
en
conf t
dott11 ssid Ownage
vlan 1
auth open
auth key-ma wpa ver 2
wpa-psk ascii
guest-mode
end
en
conf t
int dot11 1
ssid Ownage
encryption vlan 1 mode ciphers aes-ccm
no shut
end
en
conf t
dott11 ssid Ownage 2
vlan 10
auth open
auth key-ma wpa
wpa-psk ascii
guest-mode
end
en
conf t
int dot11 0
ssid Ownage 2
encryption vlan 10 mode ciphers tkip
no shut
end
The above configuration will resolve your issue..

Surendra,
It's not very clear in what you've posted on how you're selecting the radio. I used Cisco CP to configure the AP for a friends business and it's very feature poor in regards to the AP.
I'm trying to reconfigure his AP so that I enable to N and G access for various users who come through the office but CP doesn't offer radio options and seems to bind to the G radio by defacto. Perhaps it's more configurable via the http interface, but I can't reach it from outside of the office. I know the encryption has to be changed away from WEP in order to do N, but the radio binding's are cryptic.
Could you look at my config and give me some guidance on enabling the same SSID for both N and G? If you could point out which commands are specific to VLAN and radio bindings so I can see what's going on, that'd be really wonderful!

I have a question. I have a Cisco 881G-V-K9 wireless router and I am getting very weak signal. I am using a PCTEL antenna to strengthen the signal. My question is do I need to connect the PCTEL anntenna to the 881G-V-K( router? If so how do you do it? The PCTEL part# is MPMB80621MPTC. It's a 806-960/1710-2170 MHZ, 5/7 dBi, Panal antenna
