So I have been given one of these after a store upgrade that I've been working on, Im quite IT literate and I can console into devices but without guidance this is where my knowledge stops, I want to use this AP for home use, when I plug it in, I get a constant flashing green, I can see the IP on my network, but I cant log into it, is anyone able to send me a basic config to load onto it so I can use for home use or in the nicest possible way could someone tell me like Im a 5 year old what I need to do to run it on my home network which will be plugged into a Nighthawk router.

Thanks in advance

(which will apply to your model too)

-- Each morning when I wake up and look into the mirror I always say ' Why am I so brilliant ? '
When the mirror will then always repond to me with ' The only thing that exceeds your brilliance is your beauty! '

First I would check what image you got in your AP "show version". If it is ap1g2-k9w8, then it is a lightweight image that you require a controller to manage your AP.

You have to have ap1g2-k9w7 (autonomous image) if you need to use it as a standalone AP. Refer below post for how can you convert Lightweight to Autonomous

https://mrncciew.com/2012/10/20/lightweight-to-autonomous-conversion/

https://mrncciew.com/2013/12/13/ap-conversion-using-mode-button

If it does not have k9w7, You may have to ask that image from the person you got these AP (you cannot download it from cisco.com without valid support contract)

Once you convert to autonomous, you can apply a simple config like below and then plug to your home modem ethernet port that provides DHCP IP. Modify  parameters within <> (hostname, SSID name, SSID password)

conf t
hostname <AP_HOSTNAME>
!
dot11 ssid <SSIID_NAME>
authentication open
authentication key-management wpa version 2
guest-mode
wpa-psk ascii <SSID_PASSWORD>
!
interface Dot11Radio0
encryption mode ciphers aes-ccm
ssid <SSIID_NAME>
no shutdown
!
interface Dot11Radio1
channel width 40-above
encryption mode ciphers aes-ccm
ssid <SSIID_NAME>
no shutdown
!
interface BVI1
ip address dhcp
!
end
write memory

Hi. Yeh after some searching I can see that’s where I now need to be, my problem is getting the image file for autonomous, which I can’t get from anywhere which means I’m now not going to be able to do it :-( unless you know anywhere else I can get it from.

Thanks

Test your luck on the internet, sometime you may get it.

 - You still seem to be running a capwap-image whilst you need an autonomous image.

Yeh. I’m trying to change it to autonomous, but I keep getting these errors.

Not sure where I’m going wrong :-(

Follow some guides or videos on the conversion:

Thanks, that's the best vid I've found , thanks, however now when i try i get the error message when trying to read the file

.Tar checksum error in fd 0

Any ideas?

Download the image again and verify the md5 hash. I don’t know what else you can do, but make sure the file is not corrupted.
