Cisco Aironet 1542i setup and configuration

Hi Cisco-Community,

I am beginner here and first time using Cisco Aironet devices. 

For my installation I bought 3x access points Cisco Aironet 1542i-E-K9. I need just easy WiFi access to network, I thought before that 1542i could work like standard access points without any other equipment. But after connecting to power LED are blinking with different colors and no any SSID like CiscoAirProvision and there is no connection over ethetnet cable.

My questions are following:

- Could Aironet 1542i work as standalone AP without any other Cisco controller? 

- Are somewhere easy manual or tutorial for easy people how to configure this device? Push me in right direction where to look solution.

- Was I am wrong in my usecase? I just need rugged and reliable solution for underground installation.

Check if this AP has Mobility express image or Lightweight ?

If it has Mobility express then you are on right path and dont need any seperate WLC as 1542 AP can itself work as WLC/AP together.

you can see it from show version command from AP CLI.

I came back to this issue. AP infront of me.

I connected over CLI with console cable. I got following info during startup (attached).

Web interface is not working. Ping is not working, but I see device on DHCP server.

As I understood there is CAPWAN mode. The main and important question - how to convert it for easy WiFi-Access Point mode. There are a lot of documentation but i didn't find the right one.

Yes you are right, its in CAPWAP mode.

Now you nee dto convert it to Mobility express and for that you need a different software " example: AIR-AP1540-K9-ME-8-5-171-0.tar"

But I can not download the image without "Service Contract". Do I really need to get this contract. Is there any possibility to get firmware in more easy way?

What did you find out? I have the exact same problem.

NO without valid service contract you cant download the software from cisco portal.

Best would be contact with your supplier, he/she may help you!
