Cisco WLC5520 - Smart License removed and now registration pending

Hello,

For some unknown reasons, the WLC instance has been removed from our smart licensing portal.
I tried to register again our WLC 5520, and forced it, but now we have this status :

Smart Licensing is ENABLED

Registration:
Status: UNREGISTERED - REGISTRATION PENDING
Smart Account: ***
Virtual Account: ***
Export-Controlled Functionality: Allowed
Initial Registration: First Attempt Pending

License Authorization:
Status: AUTHORIZED on Jul 01 07:20:02 2022 UTC

It's stuck here.

Then I want to do a DE-REGISTRATION to register it again, can I do it safely, without impacting anything on our WLC that is in production with around 340 APs ?

Thanks Balaji,

Our WLC code is 8.5.171.0, I have already done the license registering multiple times, I will follow these steps:

  • Do a De-registration on WLC
  • Create a new token on smart licensing portal
  • Register again the WLC (with or without force?)

Read https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/field-notices/724/fn72415.html then update (preferred fix) to 8.10.183.0 or MR9 due out in the next week or two or use the workaround provided in the FN if you're forced to stick to 8.5 code.
To clarify - smart licensing is broken in 8.5.171.0 due to certificate changes.

We cannot upgrade more than 8.5.x because we have older APs, and anyway it's planned to migrate to new C9800-CL.

Anyway I've solved the smart licensing issue using "test smart-lic stop" then "test smart-lic start" that is reseting the smart licensing process, on both WLCs (we have 2 in HA).

After doing that I just did once again the registration and the WLC is now correctly registered on Cisco SL portal.

Ok glad to hear you got it sorted out

Sure that is moving forward due to end-of-life products and no support also available.
