Hi guys,
I am having some troubles with client roaming on a 5508 controller running firmware 7.3.101.0. As soon as a client roams outside the range of an AP they lose data flow and do not seem to transition to another AP for about 1 minute.
This is a small network with 6 x AIRCAP3502E-N-K9 AP's (running in H-REAP mode) on the same floor and clients are a mix of HP notebooks, Mac Books, iMacs, iPads and iPhones. There are several seperate SSID's setup and the problem occurs on all. All are WPA2/AES with either a PSK or 802.1X. Both 2.4GHz and 5GHz radios are enabled with auto power and channel selection.
I have tried changing the roaming settings from default and also playing with the AP power settings to no avail.
Is this normal behaviour or is there something I can do to improve the reconnection speed?

The decision to roam to which AP is solely at the discretion of the wireless clients. Please ensure the wireless NIC drivers are up to date.
You can "assist" in the the wireless NIC by ensuring the following:
1. Disable Client Load Balancing;
2. Disable 802.11b/g data rates from 1 Mbps up to 12 Mbps. Make 18 Mbps as "Mandatory" and the rest are "Supported".

Just to add to Leo's post.... It seems like there might be a configuration issue. I would change the roaming setting, etc back to default. I'm also going to assume that you have 100% coverage and that the client device is roaming using the same ssid? You don't have multiple ssid profiles configured on the client. If you can post the show run config, that would help us review how your wlc is setup.

There is definately 100% coverage infact the AP's do overlap quite a bit in some areas (closest AP's are around 20-25 meters apart).
They are roaming using the same SSID but some clients do have multiple SSID profiles setup. Basically there are 3 SSID/networks, each runs on a different VLAN and used for different purposes (e.g. guest access, local network access etc). Some devices e.g the iPads/iPhones will have all 3 SSID profiles setup but most of the other devices do not. On my test laptop I only have one SSID profile setup and this issue still occurs.
I am not back at this location for a few days but I will post the config once I am able to retreive it. I will also try your suggestions to see if there are any improvements.

I have likely the same issue with a customer with Broadcom wireless nics.
Bad drivers or sticky clients is the main issue I think.

How does the channel layout look? If there is quite a bit of overlap, checking the AP channels to make sure they are spaced correctly MIGHT help...
