clients connect all to same AP

Hi

I have 3 APs connected to a 9800-CL controller. they are installed in a line along a large hallway. After a reboot everthing works well, clients connect to the nearest AP.

After a while clients dont conenct anymore to one clients and after some more time (about 8 hours) all clients connect only to a single AP (always the same, mounted first in the line). When I then go to the last AP (where there is no more coverage of the first AP) and try to connect, i do see the WLAN but it wont let me connect.

On the attached image you can see that clients are already connecting to only 2 AP. Within a couple of hours it´ll show only one AP with connected clients

I see no clients in the attached, just host access points.  Clients are laptops, tablets, smart phones etc.  As Scott says all clients are in charge of their own link selection.  the client device will attach first to the strongest and probably remain attached until it falls below -90 when again it will grab the strongest.  So if the first is -45 and standing there the last is -65 then nothing will never move because none ever fall below the min threshold.

Well you only have 3 AP’s so RRM will not function. You will have to adjust the TX power manually and then also look at disabling some of the lower data rates. These will help shrink the cell to where the device will want to roam. If the cell size is large and signal doesn’t fall below what the device vendor has roaming set to, the device will stick and not roam. Play around with the data rates first, walk around and get it to where you like the roaming. Keep in mind the client is responsible for roaming, not the wireless.

This sounds like a bug in the AP software.  What version of software are you running?
