Deploying mesh AP, how do you approach?

We have been thrown a project that was kind of left unfinished.  The site has a RAP already configured and running however we have about 6 APs that will need to be MAPs.

Does anyone have a guide to deploying these?  Should we be priming them or doing something before putting them in the mesh environment?

I know they all need to be on the same channel, however I am unsure which radios will handle the uplink and which will handle user traffic, and how that is approached and deployed.

Any tips or advice?
