Detecting what AP your attached to.

I have implemented about 30 1200 Series AP's throughout our production facility. We use LEAP to attach to our wireless network. My problem is that I have so many AP's and I have no way of telling which AP I am attached to when on the wireless network. The client I am using sucks, I can only see the SSID.

My question is there a utility out there that can tell as I move about the facility what AP I am attached to?

odyssey client will give you the MAC of the radio to which you've associated. Are you using a WLSE with your APs? there are some reporting features available in the WLSE.

From device see if you can get it's mac address (it may be printed on sticker somewhere then:

Option 1 (WDS Running)

Login to the AP running WDS.

sh wlccp wds ap

[ gives you a list of all the AP's ]

sh wlccp wds mn

[ Gives you a list of mac addr, IP, etc of all Mobile Nodes, and current AP ! - ie clients currently associated across all AP's serviced by the WDS ]

Option 2

Login to each AP and look at the output of

sh dot11 assoc
