Good SNR but high packet error rate

Hi,

I have run some tests on our outdoor mesh network. I got acceptable SNR (25-35) but packet error rate was kinda high(10%-35%). I found one 802.11FH interferers. Is this single interferer causing problems ? or there could be any other issue??

Thanks,

Gurinder

Hi Gurinder,

How many hops does your mesh network counts?

Hi Istvan,

I have 5 RAPs and 6 MAPs, Each MAP is directly connected to RAP. So there is no more than 1 hop.

High packet error rate (PER).

1. In Cisco WCS, run the Mesh Packet Error Rate Report (Reports > Mesh Reports > Me sh Packet Error Stats).

2. Run a link test from the controller or WCS.

If good SNR but high PER, then check for interference.

3. Verify load in the network.

4. Check distances between APs and their antenna placement.

Note: Verify that the distance between APs (within the US) is 40 ft. or greater when OMNI directional antennas are attached (ETSI => 10 ft.) to reduce high PER and prevent possible hardware problems.

Thank you. I have a electrical junction box right behind the one of the MAPs antennas . Do you think it can make an affect on PER?
