How to Shut no Shut AP PoE ports from WLC

Hi Experts

How do we shut no shut or bounce AP PoE ports from WLC. Basically we have cameras connected to the outdoor mesh and we want to bounce the ports so they can get new IPs from DHCP.

Cheers!

In relation to PoE shut and no shut to be done in Switch level, not WLC Level. With WLC not possible,

do you have Prime, which managed your Switch infrastructure? then you can make a template for the same.

the best easy quick way is login in to switch where the AP connected.- (if you have records and descriptions clear on the switch port) shut and no shut is the quickest way.

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Hi BB,

These are Mesh APs hence they are not powered up using the PoE ports of the Switch and the Mesh AP ports are powering IP Cameras. So I want to restart the IP Cameras but turning off PoE so they die and then turn PoE back on to initiate a restart of the DCHP process.

I have prime, not sure if this can be done using Prime?

Thanks for assistance!

Apologies i may miss understand always in standard AP powered by PoE switch, You mean Ap powered from IP Camera?

If you looking to re-start AP, you can make a Template in Prime to restart AP. (is this what you looking ?)

No AP supplying power TO the IPCameras via PoE.

So Im looking to turn off that PoE port on the AP so that the IPCamera can turn off, and then I want to turn the PoE power on, so that the IP Camera can turn on.

Basically I want to use the WLC to restart the PoE ports on the APs.

I do not want to restart the AP, just the PoE ports on the AP I want to bounce those. So these are outdoor APs and I have a mesh network so alot of these APs are not being powered by any switch, only ac/dc power.

Ok it is clear now...what AP Models is this ? what OS running, please.

Its 1552H OS (8.2.170.0)

Command supposed to be: config ap lan port-id <port ID> poe disable <AP name>
or
config ap lan poe-out disable <AP name>
But it give me the error:
"This AP does not support this feature !" - on 1552 AP.
Though you may try to just disable the port:
config ap lan port-id <port id> disable

If none of them is working / supported, then AP reset may help.

  - You can only bounce ports from the switches where the camer's are connected to , not from the WLC,

The problem is that the camera is connected to the AP, not to a switch (though there is a "switch" in the 1552 and 6300 APs).

In case of a mesh AP, it's not even connected to any switch.
For example:
>show ap lan port-summary TEST-AP

LAN Port configuration for AP TEST-AP

Lan Override .................................... Enabled
Port Status POE Power Level
------ -------- -------- ----------------
LAN1 ENABLED ENABLED None
LAN2 ENABLED ENABLED None

   - This is not a common requirement, as your example noted from :
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/8-4/config-guide/b_cg84/ap_power_and_lan_connections.html#task_E46F0CE53E7D465C879F388C63243406
it also looks like not all AP models have support for it.

Besides all of that : the original requirement is a 'local device' issue ; meaning , check for instance if you have means to access the (a) camera through web interface or other and make it restart (e.g.)

You could try to logon to an AP after ssh access is granted on the controller and look
at 'show interface' and or check if you could bounce the interface locally on the AP ,

Well, it's quite common requirement for industrial environment, where a power cycle may cost 4k USD. This is quite often the last resort to recover the remote device on the AP.
Seems like when no option to flap the port from the WLC, it cannot do from LWAP either - at least I don't see relevant command on our 1552 and 6300 APs.

Anyhow, doesn't seems important for Cisco as after the 1552 and 6300, the 9167 doesn't have the PoE out.
