Incompatibility issue between WLC and AP

Hello everyone,

I'm currently facing an issue when trying to connect the AP to the WLC and establish the CAPWAP tunnel.

Note that I have the following products model numbers:

WLC: 9800

AP: 9162I

And when i searched about the issue, it appears to me from the compatibility matrix on Cisco website.

that there is an incompatibility between the software versions, as the AP support the version of: 17.9.2.52 or higher.

and the WLC hvae the version of: 17.3.4.40.

Please advise whether I have diagnosed the issue correctly or if I'm missing anything.

If this diagnosis is accurate, how can it be resolved?

Regards,

Faisal

9162 is supported from 17.9.2.

I always look at the AP datasheet for minimum WLC software recommendation.

Check Table 2. Specifications from the datasheet link  - https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/catalyst-9100ax-access-points/cat-9162-series-access-points-ds.html

17.10.1 is short -lived release and reached EoL. So, like Leo said, C9800 should be minimum at ios-xe version 17.9.2. But  "Cisco recommends 17.9.4 + SMU_CSCwh87343 + APSP (as needed) OR 17.9.4a + APSP(as needed) for all deployments."
