Hi there

I tried to configure a new Aironet 1700. I need to set it to work in autonomous mode.

It has an IP address from the local dhcp server.

But I could not login via putty ssh or windows telnet.

the error for ssh is access denied

I entered username / password as Cisco / Cisco

also I did telnet , the error is

Password required, but none set

Do I have to use a console cable to do this?

Please advise.

Thanks a lot,

Michael

Make sure it is definitely in autonomous mode, normally factory settings allow telnet and HTTP with authentication using Cisco/Cisco.

This is the ultimate resource for initial configuration of this AP:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/access_point/15-3-3/configuration/guide/cg15-3-3/cg15-3-3-chap4-first.html#pgfId-1002608

It has instructions on how to factory reset the AP, which should restore the default settings including user credentials.  It also has details on how to connect to the AP and configure initial settings.

You should be able to complete all of these steps without using a console cable.

Hope this helps,

Pete.

Thanks Pete,

I need configure it in standalone mode,

eventually I dug out my old cisco roll-over cable, use the console,

capwap ap autonomous

then the web interface become accessible.

Cheers

Michael
