Hi,

I want to know the steps to join a new access point in Cisco WLC 9800. Everything is already configured in WLC, even some more APs are already joined and working. I want to add a new additional AP. So can anyone please share the CLI or GUI steps for this.

Regards

There are number of methods people use based on their convinient.

1. DNS

2. Broadcast same VLAN

3  @Leo Laohoo mentioned option 43

4. connect console manually configure AP to join WLC IP

below guide help you to understand better :

    - It works in a reverse way ; you make the Join profile and if the AP joins the controller the parameters of the join profile are attached or incorporated  in the AP ,

You either configure a static AP join profile by AP MAC address (does not scale well because you need an entry for each AP) or you use an AP filter with regex based on the name of the AP which will assign the AP tags and profiles as soon as the AP joins with a matching name.  Once you have the filter (and filter priority) configured, rename the AP and then do a capwap restart (ap name <apname> reset capwap) and when it rejoins and matches the regex it will have the correct config applied.  Use "show ap tag summ" to confirm the tags applied as intended.

Search for "AP Filter".
Note the ap filter will only start working when you have also set the ap filter priority.
