Yes, but if you want to use it for wireless, then you need to convert this to Autonomous & configure it for wireless.

http://mrncciew.com/2012/10/20/lightweight-to-autonomous-conversion/

http://mrncciew.com/2013/12/13/ap-conversion-using-mode-button/

As long as you have required image (k9w7..) you can convert it using one of below methods.

Then you can apply basic config like this on the AP & connect it to DHCP configured switch port

conf t
hostname <AP_HOSTNAME>
!
dot11 ssid <SSID_NAME>
   authentication open
   authentication key-management wpa version 2
   guest-mode
   wpa-psk ascii <SSID_PASSWORD>
!
interface Dot11Radio0
 encryption mode ciphers aes-ccm
 ssid <SSID_NAME>
 no shutdown
!
interface Dot11Radio1
 channel width 40-above
 encryption mode ciphers aes-ccm
 ssid <SSID_NAME>
 no shutdown
!
interface BVI1
 ip address dhcp
!
end
write memory
!

Do i need a console cable for this if not using the MODE conversion way?

Having the console connection is always recommended. If you have telnet/ssh access, you can do the conversion, but you will loose the visibility what's going on during the process. If there is a problem, without console access, you can't get it fix.

File name should be renamed as "c1140-k9w7-tar.default" If you do not have power adapter to power the AP (ie if you are using PoE) then connect AP & PC to the two swichport on the same vlan/same switch.

If you have power adapter, then you can directly connect AP ethernnet to your PC running tftp

Yes. So long as the AP gets power and can talk to the controller. Or if you have converted it from CUWN to aIOS, gets power and is configured.

To begin I downloaded the  " c1140-k9w7-tar.153-3.JB.tar  "  from cisco.com. Is this the correct Autonomous AP IOS software?

Will I also the IOS boot image?

That's the correct image, you do not want any other images.

Thank you.

I will not have these units in hand until a week or so. I am gathering the information and instruction for what i will have to do when i receive them. I am reading your post from the links above and going from there.

I hope I will be able to covert it without any issue!

Thank you again and may seek your help again when I am in the process stage.

Your help is much appreciated!

No problem, drop a line any time here in CSC forum,  when you require further assistance on this.

Do i need a console cable for this if not using the MODE conversion way?

And if doing the mode button conversion way (which i think will be best for me) I changed the file name to "c1140-k9w7-tar.153-3.JB.tar.default" then input it to the tftpd. But my question is while holding the reset button for 20 seconds until solid Red is it supposed to be plugged into power + Ethernet directly to computer?

Thank you!!!
