I switched the embedded controller interface to layer 2 and now I cannot access the gui. How do I regain access?

I consoled into one of the AP but it keeps going to discovery mode and any username I use it says is wrong

You need to console to the AP that is running the EWC

I have. This one is the primary and its still trying to enter discovery mode. Once in can I write commands to return it to layer 3? Also its a logical controller that moves around.

It does not move arount but you can have primary and secondary WLC.

If you are in the right AP and you dont have the EWC prompt then you probably did more than change the interface.

You probably need to re-install it.

re install what? the interface to the primary AP?

Thank you very much.

Can I make one of the others the primary if I factory reset it?

Did you have a secondary? If you did, it probably became the primary already as the primary is not reposponding anymore.

If you did not have a secondary, I dont believe this is going to work.

My issue is accessing them as they are high up. The one I have access to is not the primary or secondary. I have the running config backed up. Could any of this be doable?

You need more than backup. You need the EWC firmware. Install the firmware on this AP, make it the primary, upload the backup you have and that´s it.

You dont have a secondary, otherwise, the AP you console in to were not in discovery more, it would be joined on the Secondary.

What do you mean?  What exactly did you do?

Regardless though, follow Flavio's advice to create a new EWC.
