Master controller mode in 9800 WLC ?

Is there a "master controller" functionality in the 9800's ?

I cant seem to find it anywhere, UI or config guides.

Is there another way of accomplishing "master controller" ?

Put one WLC in a MB group(name) by itself and only use that in discovery ?

(It properly would work, but ..... )

On the 9800’s there is no “master controller” equivalent setting. You either have to use option 43 or dns discovery and or just set the tag that defines the primary and secondary with fallback enabled. Here is a link to a guide:

Ill accept this as a solution.

But in 17.3.x the wording is "Backup Primary Controller" not just "Primary Controller".

That might have been a bit confusing.Capture.PNG

Sure there is:

conf t

wireless priming-controller

end

Hi Sam,

I have a 9800 WLC with IOS Version 16.12.5 and it doesn't recognized this command. Which version have you tried on this command?

WLC 9800 always annonce itself as "Master" this is an expected behavior:

New APs will always prefere 9800 controller
