Maximum users per AP

I have a fairly large wireless deployment and I have been looking for information regarding the total number of users supported per AP; as of yet I have not found any information other then marketing statements of "High Capacity". I am looking for 802.11G/B information regarding the total number of users supported using no auth, 802.1x, WEP, and WPA security configurations; this would be an indoor deployment. I would appreciate any information that could be provided.

I believe to remember that TAC sais that no more than 20 users should be on one AP. With VoIP (7920 phones) just 7 users.

What do you call "fairly large"? How many AP's? What type?

Are you using a WLSE? Or wlan controllers?

VoIP? separate VLAN's? QoS?

best regards

Thank you for your help with this.

It depends upon your users and application. In my warehouse I have one AP350 driving 45+ handheld RF scanners. The RF scanners are mostly 4800 cards and a few 350 cards. The traffic generated by each scanner is very light and the scanners are running at 1Mps therefore I can get that high of a client density and I still have room to add more.

The wireless network says it is 11Mps or 54Mps but you do not have that bandwidth. You have to account for the wireless overhead and wireless is running at half-duplex.

Good luck with your deployment.
