Hi all,
I am going to upgrade my mobility express step up ( Air-2800) to 9800 WLC.
I am facing a challange where all my APs are configured with static IP and WLC IP , Now we are changing Managemnet subnet where the new 9800 will be placed.
is there any way to migirate as smooth as possible and minimize downtime ?
Any help and guidance will be helpful.
Thanks

Hi @Sanju_13
If you have an internal DNS you can add an entry resolving the name CISCO-CAPWAP-CONTROLLER.localdomain to the IP address of the new WLC.
During the replacement the AP will reload, that´s a fact, when the AP boots up, it will try to find the WLC again and one method it will use is DNS resolution. If that URL is there, it can find the new WLC and joing to it.

- On the APs (CLI) you can : capwap ap primary-base <name> <IP address>
The AP will then download the new c9800 image and reboot.
On the long run , you are better off by using DHCP and dhcp option 43 to let the APs discover the new controller
Verify the 9800 WLC configuration with the CLI command show tech wireless ; feed the output into :
https://cway.cisco.com/wireless-config-analyzer/
Consider this procedure mandatory
