Non wifi interference

Do we need to enable the avoid persistent non wifi interference check box to include the non wifi interference in the DCA calculation

i am also struggling to understand this.

As per TAC, we need to select the checkbox if we want our controller to consider the interference from foreign access point and select a different channel during DCA calculation.

That is contradictory to what Cisco says in the documentation:

'Select the Avoid Persistent Non-WiFi Interference check box to enable the Cisco WLC to ignore persistent non-WiFi interference.'

Does 'ignore' mean that the Cisco WLC take non-WIFI interference into consideration?

It's been a while and I'm still confused

Anyway, in version 8.10 documentation, they changed the phrasing:

Check the Avoid Persistent Non-WiFi Interference check box to configure the controller to stop ignoring persistent non-Wi-Fi interference in new channel calculation. The persistent non-Wi-Fi interference is considered during the metric calculation for channels.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/8-10/config-guide/b_cg810/radio_resource_management.html

So at least in 8.10 this checkbox should be enabled if you have a lot of Non-WiFi interference and want DCA to select a better channel.

From 17.15. Guide: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/9800/17-15/config-guide/b_wl_17_15_cg/m_rrm_c9800.html
Check the Avoid Foreign AP Interference check box to cause the device’s RRM algorithms to consider 802.11 traffic from foreign APs (those not included in your wireless network) when assigning channels to lightweight APs, or uncheck it to disable this feature. For example, RRM may adjust the channel assignment to have access points avoid channels close to foreign APs. By default, this feature is in enabled state.
