Hello all,
Our company lost most of our wireless support staff due to an acquisition and with them went the admin password for PI. We need to reboot it for performance reasons, but I can't locate a place to do that via the web UI. Is there a way to do this? Also, I'd like to try a password recovery for the phy, but our software licensing group does not have the media to boot from. Wondering if it's possible to get an ISO to boot from somehow or if we should just upgrade to a newer version of software, which would possibly require a reboot. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Version 3.1.0.0.132
Installed updates:
PI3.1.7 Maintenance Release
PI 3.1 Device Pack 16

If the Appliance KVM configured you can reboot using KVM
if you like to reset as below link :

Thanks for the response. I created an account that is a member of admin, super users, and config managers; however, when I login to the web UI and go the servers tab the option to restart is not there for some reason. It's almost as if the account isn't really a super user or admin even though it says it is. I'm a remote user and don't have physical access at this time, but my assumption is I will need the root or admin account info to access the cli via the kvm, which I don't have.

Is it really a physical appliance? The virtual one doesn't offer the reboot button if I remember correctly. There you need to login onto CLI and reboot from there (or do it from within Vsphere).

Yes it is a physical. The root password is unavailable and the reboot option isn't there logging in as admin. I'm in the office today and will try to console and login with the admin account. If that doesn't work not sure how we'll be able to reboot short of pulling power and that would probably corrupt the database.

Get support if you really need this in your environment. Your best bet since there was no hand over between the teams during the acquisition is to go through the password recovery and change the password. You will need to do this eventually or else you will just run into issues and will be forced to do this during an unexpected time. I have not ran a physical appliance in a long time, but on virtual, you can restart the server as long as you are authenticated as an admin. If you are running TACACS, you can probably get a workaround to login as an admin to hit the right auth method as super admin. If all your accounts are local to Prime, well then, it's best to do what I mentioned earlier. Getting support can allow you to also upgrade to the latest version and also move the license from your physical to a virtual if you have a VM environment.
You can always get someone onsite to connect the appliance to a PDU so you can power it down and up whenever you need, but that is an awful workaround.

Hi Scott
i've similar problem but for VM. i've passed procedure described https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/cloud-systems-management/prime-infrastructure/200760-CLI-Root-User-Password-Recovery-Process.html
but still no luck to login to CPI. root plays admin account role in my deployment, so that any other logins to CLI fail.
