Hey, all. I have a combination of 340s, 350s, 1200s, and 1100s. Is there any way to configure them as gateways? I would like for each access point to have an internal network and for clients to obtain IP addresses from an external DHCP server. Is that possible and, if it is, can anyone tell me how to go about the configuration?

No. Cisco APs do not provide IP routing function. I suggest you to create 2 VLANs. One VLAN is for BVI (i.e. the management IP address for the AP). Another VLAN is used for wireless clients. You need to have an external router as well.

In reference to your comment "No. Cisco APs do not provide IP routing function." - I have a question this might answer. We run our internal production WLAN on a separate vlan than the mgt. vlan on the access points. We have an in-house "open" internet connection to provide hotspots for visitors. We're testing a 3rd vlan on the access points to handle both vlans for users: (1)mgt.
(2)production/LEAP authenticated and (3)open hotspot.
My question is - is there any type setting on the AP that will allow vlan hopping ? ...any routing/briging function that would allow Joe Blow to get on the production network from an open internet connection ?
Thanks,

Hi,
We have the same kind of network that you described. We are passing WLAN transparently over our Management VLAN. We are using a third party box that is a gateway and uses LDAP to authenticate all the users.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at alialloo@rocketmail.com and I can explain to you how to go about this issue if you are still facing this challenge.
Ali.
