You may need autonomous image - e.g. c1140-k9w7-tar.153-3.JD16.tar (usually those AP got lightweight image & need WLC to manage them),if you have console cable pls check what image it got. Below post may help you for conversion (as long as you got right image)

Thanks patoberli
I have image on 1040 now after a lot of searching i have come up with this:-
Enable
debug capwap console cli
conf t
ip default-gateway 192.168.0.16
int g0
ip address 192.168.0.7 255.255.255.0
no sh
exit
exit
archive download-sw /force-reload /overwrite tftp://192.168.0.16/c1140-k9w7-tar.153-3.JD16.tar
and can now get to the gui of the device my next part is how to config the access point to mach into my existing network to broadcast my ssid and key.
i have downloaded cna-windows-k9-installer-5-6-3-en.exe which the gui points to but ahh doesn't support the 1040.
a lot more reading and trying to config the access point

Hi @patoberli
I did this little manual for CSC Spanish but it has a lot of images and goes step by step. Let me know if it works for you.
