I am experiencing the same problem with 1552E Access point, I can successfully upload the autonomous image for Aironet 2602E, the tftp server doesnt respond to requests by 1552E and giving me same error message,

%Error opening tftp://10.0.0.2/c1520-k9w7-tar.152-4.JA1.tar (Timed out)

Download image failed, notify controller!!! From:7.4.1.37 to 0.0.0.0, FailureCode:15

You are using a tftp that is wired not wireless correct? Just want to make sure the issue is when your wired, because wireless will fail.

make sure that the AP is not registered to the controller.

try the archive sw-download and see how it goes.

If no luck , try the following

1. Enter the Rommon Mode by pressing Escape

2. Initialize the flash

ap : flash_init

3.   ap: set IP_ADDR x.x.x.x
     ap: set NETMASK x.x.x.x

4.      ap: tftp_init

5.      ap: ether_init - NOTE: during this time it's not possible to ping.

6.      ap: tar -extract tftp://x.x.x.x/c1520-k9w7-tar.152-4.JA1.tar flash:

7.      ap: set BOOT flash://c1520-k9w7-mx.152-4.JA1/c1520-k9w7-xx.152-4.JA1

8.     ap: boot

Thanks for your reply, I am already in ROMON mode and no luck

tftp://10.0.0.1/c1520-k9w7-tar.152-2.JA.tar: connection timed out

just a quick question, the ip address that you have assigned to the AP, is it in the same subnet as the tftp server or not?

if it is not in the same subnet, please make sure to set the default gateway as follows:

ap: set DEFAULT_ROUTER x.x.x.x

Please make sure to to view the file extensions if it is hidden on the machine where the tftp server is installed.

If still no luck , you need to have sniffer trace on the tftp server and see if you are getting any tftp request from the AP or not.

Maldehne,

I have seen quite a few post regarding converting these 1552's and it seems like there is an issue.  I wish I had one to test with, but I don't.  Just curious if this is a known issue or not.

Thanks,

Scott

Hold on for a second ... this is a conversion from CAPWAP to autonomous, right?  Why do you want to enter the "archive" command for?

Draw your diagram.  Is the AP DIRECTLY CONNECTED to your TFTP client or is there anything in between (like a switch)?

Follow this:  Using a TFTP Server to Return to a Previous Release

This worked for me, I was expecting to ping the interface (it didn't happen), nevertheless my tftp (Tftpd64) was able to communicate with the AP.

Thanks

Hello servisturk,

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm having the same problem.

Thanks,

Bobby

Hi guys,

It's been a long time since the last post here, but my answer can maybe help others.

I had the same issue today with FailureCode:15.

I succesfully go through this error after I have convert the ap in local mode, previously it was on bridge mode.

# capwap ap mode local

Hello Theo,

you ended my all day work with ISR829 integrated AP. Now I am able to connect to TFTP server.

Thank you guy!
