upgrade to IOS version matters?

I have come across a 1231G unit on my network which had VX and needed a IOS upgrade.  I have the softare version up to 12.3 JED  but the web interface shows a version of

Product/Model Number:

AIR-AP1220-IOS-UPGRD

Is there any concern about have the software listed as above?  If so, what is the procedure to have the software reflected properly?

Hi Jeremy,

AIR-AP1220-IOS-UPGRD is the Product ID.. i guess you are running IOS now on the VX AP.. The product id is telling that its AP1220 and its compatiblle when upgraded to IOS from Vxworks

So to see the exact software version or the IOS running on it.. open up the telnet session into the AP and issue the command..

"show version"

now you can see the IOS running on this along with the Boot loader.

I have checked the version and it reflects the same 1220 info.  Here is the rundown:

Seems like this point is still stuck in limbo.  I have the AP running up to 123-8JEB1 so the IOS software is there, running and appears to be functioning the same as my other APs.

Any hints on this?

show flash lists the 123.8-JED file

I've tried a hard reset to pull the JED file back onto the unit twice, along with the two previous versions.  The IOS reflects the new version but the model info/bootldr still show the 1220.

The other odd part is this unit is a 1231.  All the stickers and model info reflect that.

Model info is different.. Boot loader is different and the IOS running on it is different..

The AP is running 12.3 image and this is IOS running on it... Boot loader is the Rommon Version and its a partial code used when the AP is in AP: prompt and has very minimal comands to execute...

are we not able to see the below if we reboot the AP on the console..

The thing I just don't understand is why the 1220-IOS-UPGRD info is still there.  It almost seems like the image was wrong for this AP, but its still functional enough to boot the IOS software.

The AP is runing 123-8.JED image and also loading or booting with the same and i do not see the problem..

Then coming back to 1220-IOS-UPGRD, this is the Hardware Model number of the Device and the IOS running on it will not be with the same name and it is  123-8.JED.. Now coming to Boot loader, this is the Rommon version of the Device. No where in the output its telling us that the IOS is 1220-IOS-UPGRD, where in its telling us "Product/Model Number : AIR-AP1220-IOS-UPGRD" Not software.. the software or the IOS will be running on this hardware..

Ah, I think I see the issue.

There was a sticker covering up another label on the unit and that one identified the unit as a 1220.

But, the top label with the FCC logo and power requirements and UL logo says AIR-AP1231G-A-K9  Why would one sticker indicated this is a newer model than what the unit actually is?

I don't know.  This was part of a lot I received used.

All in all, what is the biggest detail you can think of between a 1220 and a 1231G?  Just wondering if there is not much to worry about.  The unit seems to operate fine.

1220 APs are old one which used to come with Either B radio or A radio.. If G radio is needed then we were supposed to add the radio madule in it.. then the 1231 came which supported G directly and A module to added wif required.. rest all functionality is the same AFAIK..
