Hello,

I am not sure which switch and appliance you are referring to.

Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers are responsible for system wide wireless LAN functions, such as security policies, intrusion prevention, RF management, quality of service (QoS), and mobility. They work in conjunction with Cisco 1000 Series Lightweight Access Points and the Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) to support business-critical wireless applications.

Check out the data sheet for detailed information.

Cisco Wireless Location Appliance

This easy-to-deploy solution smoothly integrates with Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers and Cisco lightweight access points to track the physical location of wireless devices including Wi-Fi enabled laptops, voice handsets, Wi-Fi tags, rogue devices and rogue access points to within a few meters. This appliance also records rich historical location information that can be used for location trending, rapid problem resolution and RF capacity management.

The appliance is used on the network management side.

Hope this helps.
