I have WLC 2504 which has one 1142 and one 2702 AP connected in local mode. I have one SSID available on both 2.4 & 5 GHz. My issue is connection speed is stuck at 114Mbps on 5Ghz. I am using Windows 10 Lenovo laptop for testing with Intel(R) Wireless-AC 9560 160MHz. I set the band preference to 5Ghz so that laptop prefers 5Ghz band.
This is the view I get in controller for the client.
AP Name: 1142_2 (Ch 157)
Nearest APs: 2702_1(-78 dBm)
Device Type: Microsoft-Workstation
Performance: Signal Strength: -26 dBm Signal Quality: 67 dB Connection Speed: 144 Mbps Channel Width: 20 MHz
Capabilities: 802.11n (5GHz) Spatial Stream: 2
Cisco Compatible: Supported (CCX v 4 )
Connection Score: 100%
I have snapshots of the settings attached. Could someone please guide me what I am missing. I am expecting the speed to be 300 mbps for 1142 5Ghz band.

On a side note, if the same PC connects to 2702 AP it shows 866mbps on 5GHz as connection speed. So there is something special about 1142 configuration. I have one more 1142 and I see the same behavior of link speed capping at 144mbps.

The AP1142 is only capable of doing 802.11n standard. This one is limited to 150Mbit/s per spacial stream. 144Mbit/s means you're transmitting with two streams at 20MHz (with MCS15 and SGI, https://mcsindex.com/).
The AP 2702 is an 802.11ac (wave 1) AP. It is expected to achieve better speed.
Your setting of 160MHz channel width is irrelevant, because 802.11n is limited to 40MHz.
So, the only performance tuner with the 1142 AP is getting it to work at 40MHz. I would start setting it to that bandwidth.
(Edited due to a hint from Rich R: Of course it's ac instead of ax!)

The bandwidth for 1142 not setting to 40Mhz is the problem. Since this is all configured via WLC, I tried setting it to160Mhz which is the max and let the WLC configure each of AP with max bandwidth. I don't see an option to explicitly set the bandwidth for 1142 APs to 40Mhz and 2702 APs to 80/160MHz.
I tried the best option as well but it didn't help. If I set the global bandwidth to 40Mhz then it will limit 2702.

You could deploy the different AP types in separate AP groups, setting the bandwidth accordingly.
But the most important question is, if the APs offer at least the required 40MHz. You could check the beacon header flags with WinFi, WiFiExplorer or even Wireshark.

used WifiInfoView to capture the headers and this is what I could get. In this tool also, I see that channel width is set to 20Mhz for this 1142 5Ghz SSID. For the 5 GHz 2702 SSID, I see the channel width set to 80Mhz and max rate shows 1300mpbs.

Yes, that's what I expected to see. Could you paste your running config here? We need to check why it only offers 20MHz.
