WLC 5508 Firmware support

Hi Expert,

we have WLC 5508 with using firmware version 7.6.130.0 and AP connected to WLC is AIR-LAP1242G-E-K9 series. recently we buy AP 2800 Series. the problem is AP 2800 Series not compatible with os 7.6.130.0.  is possible AP 1242G running with AP 2800 Series if we upgrade WLC firmware ?

I'd recommend you load the 2800 with Mobility Express firmware. With MobEx firmware, the AP can become a WLC while also be an AP.
Leave the 1240 with the controller but let one of the 2800 become the WLC for the rest of the 2800 (and newer).

Make sure you test the ME also before you start rolling it out to make sure it works the way you need it to work. If you have two 5508's, you can upgrade one and put the 2800's on them and keep the 1242's on the other and slowly migrate off the 1242's. If you only have one, then you either go ME or wait until you can swap all the AP's out. ME has a max limit of AP's that it supports also so review the data sheet and the design guide.

You can upgrade to 8.0.135.0 where both model AP's will work.
