WLC 5520 DCA Invoke Channel Update

Hello,

I have recently added a number of AP's to a hospital floor, and they are all currently set to channel 1. However, I need to invoke a channel update for a team that is on site for RTLS. I am wondering if switching the interval from 12-hours to 10-minutes would trigger a channel optimization for the newly deployed APs? Would be better to freeze and invoke a one-time update and switch it back to 12 hours once completed?

Our WLC is currently hosting around 700 AP's. So, im a little worried.

 - I thought DCA interval of 10 minutes was the default (already) , also ref : https://wirelessnick.com/2019/02/18/cisco-rrm-restart/
 >...As you add new APs into the network it is a good idea, and a Cisco recommendation, to initialize DCA startup mode. The reasoning behind this is as APs are added, DCA needs to rerun calculations and provide a more optimized channel plan based on the newly added APs and what the other APs are seeing over the air. When this command is run, it should be done from the RF Leader and will only affect the RF Leader.

The command should be run on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios:

2.4 GHz: config 802.11b channel global restart

5 GHz: config 802.11a Chanel global restart

When you bring up new ap's either a whole site, partial floor or area you want to restart rrm.  The first thing to do is make sure the DCA is set to the lowest and you would want to leave it that way for at least a few hours to a day.  The command to run after to lower the DCA are the following:

config 802.11b channel global restart
config 802.11a channel global restart

Just to add.... since you are probably out of your change window, you might just want to manually change your ap's channel manually but also reducing the DCA to 10 minutes.  You would have to have Prime as an example with the maps and the icons showing the ap's channel.  700 ap's in a hospital, manufacturing, etc., during prime time hours might not be a good idea.  Take some time to think what is the best way to do this without very much impact.  The easiest way if you need it done is to just change the DCA to 10 minutes now and then have the vendor come back to survey.  You will have to set the DCA back to 12-24 hours so that the channel doesn't change while they are performing their survey.  They should provide you with recommendations on that.
