Hello Professionals,
I'm on testing using AP-2800 Series and WLC9800, and would like to check my scenario is correct.
Here's my test lab>
AP-A: 2802I , Seral#aabbcc
AP-B: 2802I, Serial#112233
WLC9800 - AAA Method List : AP_Auth
- AAA Advance: AP Policy - Authorize APs against Serial Number (List: AP_Auth)
- AAA Advance: Device Authentication 'Serial Number' : aabbcc is added.
When I test with AP-A, I was able to see the ap status from the controller.
- Before I put serial number: AP status-Not join, Reason: Auth failed
- After I put serial number: AP status-Join
(CLI: show wireless ap stats ap join sum)
However, when I test with AP-B, I can't see the AP status at all.
Number of APs: 0
Between WLC9800 - AP-B, ping is able.
WLC9800 does not recognize AP-B right now? I was expected to see the list as 'Not Join' status.
When I check
- show wireless stats ap mac 'AP-B'
- show wireless stats ap discovery
Nothing is shown from the WLC9800.
From the AP-B side, AP is keep sending 'Discovery Request' to WLC9800.
Why am I got different situation with same series of AP?
Thank you for your comments.

- Have a general and overall checkup of the 9800 controller with the CLI command : show tech wireless ; feed the output into : https://cway.cisco.com/wireless-config-analyzer/
You can further analyze AP joining issues with : https://logadvisor.cisco.com/logadvisor/wireless/9800/9800APJoin

i would check the SN again and make sure it was correct. connect to AP console and post complete logs, also check the Logs in WLC.
