Activating Multiple SMU at once (XR 5.3.3)

I have about 14 SMU that I need to activate on my ASR9010 (XR 5.3.3) due to a on going memory leak issue.

About 4-5 of them is a reboot SMU while rest is hitless

Just want to know, can I activate all 14 SMU in one go with one one reboot?

If so, what is the procedure for doing that?

Thanks

A simple answer to the question is Yes. Multiple reload and hitless SMU's (up to 16) can be activated in one command.

However,

(1) Will you consider to upgrade to XR 5.3.4?

(2) The following write-up may be helpful to you.

https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/121401/asr9000xr-concept-smu-and-managing-them

(3) Are you aware of the existence of Cisco Software Manager (CSM) Server? It is an automation tool that eases the installation tasks with a few mouse button clicks.

The tool can be downloaded from the following URL:

https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=282414851&softwareid=284777134&release=3.3

After installation, please click on the Help button to retrieve useful info.

Please email cs-software-manager@cisco.com for the tool related support and questions.

Hi Jawai,

Thank you.

So will i be able to something like "install activate *asr9k-px-5.3.3.CSC*" to activate them?

Matthew

Hi Matthew,

You are very welcome!

Yes, you can activate multiple SMU's and SP in a list in one command like:

install activate disk0:asr9k-diags-3.7.2.1I disk0:asr9k-k9sec-3.7.2.1I

Please do not use the wildcard (*).

Please be aware of that some SMU may have pre-requisites and depend on other SMU's which have to be installed together or already been installed. This is when the CSM server comes into handy since it will sort out the dependence for you and download the pre-requisites.

Below is the full document for your reference:

Cheers,

-James

Please do not use the wildcard (*).

Why is what?

Hi Fredrik,

You are right that the wildcard is supported.

Best,

-James

Hi Matthew,

My colleague just informed that an enhancement has been done in IOS-XR that from 5.3.2, users will be able to install up to 27 SMUs or Pies together in one install operation. So if the device is currently running 5.3.2 and newer releases, you can enable 27 SMU's and SP all together in one install activate command.

Cheers,

-James
