ASR 9006 software upgrade from 6.1.4 to 6.7.3

Hi,

 I am getting the below error while upgrading the software from 6.1.4 to 6.7.3 on ASR 9006 router. Can someone help to understand the problem.

I had similar problem, you have to go in steps.  You can't go straight to 6.7.3.

I had to go from like 6.0 to 6.4 to 6.6 to 6.7

That seemed to do the trick.

This is due to CSCvj18407.

<B>Conditions:</B>
The issue applies to all ASR 9000 cards running cXR. It does not apply to eXR.
Current image is lower than 6.3.3, or the current image is 6.4.1
Target image version is higher than 6.6.6

<B>Workaround:</B>
First upgrade to 633/642/651, then upgrade to the target image.
OR, Turboboot upgrade to target image.

Def. follow Sam's suggestion, he's helped me on few issues.  Def. knows his/her (not sure if you're a he or she - my apologies Sam) stuff.

I took a RSP880 from 6.0 to 6.4 to 6.5 to 6.7

I would recommend you ftp as tftp is way too slow.

 As per Cisco document we can upgrade the software from 6.1.X to 6.7.3. But still why i am getting the error.

From my experience, when I tried to go from 6.0 to 6.7, at 6.0 the RSP has a certain version fpga.  When upgrading to 6.7, it looks for a certain minimum version that 6.0 will not be able to achieve since the image is so old.  For example - say 6.0 makes the RSP fpga1 version 1.0, and upgrading to 6.7 is looking for minimum 1.9.  Does this make sense?

If you still want to continue upgrading 6.1 straight to 6.7 then it's up to you - but I posted what worked for me.

I'm not going to say it's wrong, but that didn't work for me nor did it work for you so you can decided if it's wrong or right for you.

I got the same below error as you did when I tried to jump 6 Revisions rather than going in steps.  So I'm guessing every step uprades the fpga and the required dll to correct version.

So my advice is go in steps, that worked for me.  In our test environment we tried upgrading like you multiple times and it failed every time.  When going in steps, worked every single time.
