IOS-XR 100GbE and 10GbE Line Cards

On some IOS-XR releases, I saw the note:

Cisco IOS XR Release 5.3.0 and later does not support combination of Cisco ASR 9000 High Density 100GE Ethernet Line Card and Cisco ASR 9000 Ethernet Line Card in a single chassis.

For the list of ASR 9000 Series line card types, see: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/routers/asr-9000-series-aggregation-services-routers/116726-qanda-product-00.html#anc2

Can someone please clarify exactly which line cards fall under the class "High Density 100GE"?

Would I be able to mix and match say a A9K-4X100GE-TR or A9K-2X100GE-TR with an A9K-24X10GE-TR line card?

Hi,

that note refers to not mixing trident and tomahawk based line cards

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/routers/asr-9000-series-aggregation-services-routers/116726-qanda-product-00.html

Trident/Tyhpoon are fine

Typhoon/Tomahawk (which you listed) are fine

1st generation ethernet line card == Trident
2nd generation ethernet line card == Typhoon
3rd generation ethernet line card == Tomahawk

Trident and Typhoon in the same chassis ==> supported
Typhoon and Tomahawk in the same chassis ==> supported
Trident and Tomahawk in the same chassis ==> not supported

You can see here which PID belong to which family: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/routers/asr-9000-series-aggregation-services-routers/116726-qanda-product-00.html
