Hello folks,
I need to practice configuration on the ASR 9000 platform.
Question:
Can you confirm the router 12000 running XR below is pretty much the same OS I will find in the ASR 9000 right?

Hi,
it's indeed an IOS XR but:
- you'll find some platform specific functions, outputs, ...
- it's a fairly old version (3.9.1)
But I suppose if you want to practice platform-independant features like routing, management, ... It can do the job.
Cheers,
N.

You are limited to platform-independent configuration only, and those PI features are same. Bridge-domain, some L2 features, SPAN can only be done in asr9k.

if you meant that can you boot 12k using 9k image ? no you can't do that.
Moreover every platform has there own capablities and set of features which set them apart from each others. Those can be platform specific features and platform independent fetaures as well.
Same as you have IOS that can be used to boot 7600 and c10k boxes but they are not same there images are not same. in 12k and 9k only similarity is there are using ios-xr as there base OS.
