NCS540 USB console

Hello,

is there anyone here who has a USB console working on these routers?

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/iosxr/ncs5xx/hardware/installation/guide/b-ncs540-small-density-routers-hig/m-overview-ncs540-small-density-routers.html#id_75425

In my case it looks like the USB console is unidirectional.
I can see the boot messages during the booting process, but after booting the console freezes and no longer responds.

Best Regards,

Peter

Hello @filopeter ,

Understanding your issue, you are not able to connect to the console port.

You can refer to the following link, section "Connect to the console port".

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/iosxr/ncs5xx/hardware/installation/guide/b-ncs540-hig/install_the_chassis.html#task_hxl_csh_hbb

Maybe it's an issue with the parameters in your terminal.

"We recommend you to set the terminal to these operational values: 115200 bps, 8 data bits, no parity, 2 stop bits and flow control as none

Hope it helps and have a nice day.

Kind Regards,
Antoine

Hello @filopeter ,

I was thinking it was about console port, after reading again your messages, I saw it's regarding USB port.

You can refer to the following, maybe it will help you.
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/iosxr/ncs5xx/system-setup/72x/b-system-setup-cg-72x-ncs540/medium-xr-routers-overview.pdf

If your console freeze, maybe your USB drive is not correctly setup for booting and you have to prepare it again.

Kind Regards,
Antoine

Hello @anpetit

it is about USB console. Please check the link in my original message.

USB Console
A single USB 2.0 Type-A receptacle on the front panel of the router provides console access to uboot, Cisco IOS-XR and diagnostics. While it uses the Type-A connector, it operates as a USB peripheral only for connection to an external host computer. This interface requires the use of a Type-A to Type-A connector instead of a standard USB cable.
Use of the USB console is mutually exclusive of the RS232 console port. This interface requires the use of a Type-A to Type-A USB cable. If you insert the USB cable and connect to the host computer, then you can only enter the commands using the USB.

Kind Regards,
P.
