Hi All,
this may sound fundamental, but cant seem to find any reference.
i have a 55a1-24q box which was delivered running 7.1.2
I would like to set this up with 6.6.3 sp2
I followed the config guide for upgrading and proceed like so:
install add source /disk2:/ <path packages>
followed by an install activate <packages> which were added to the repository
seemed to be doing great, but didnt work out, and not sure what went wrong.
some issues and questions if anyone can help:
1. the box did proceed to activate the 6.6.3 packages and rebooted itself. after booting it requested username and password, but didnt allow access, spitting out an error saying the username was unknown
%SECURITY-LOGIN-4-AUTHEN_FAILED : Failed authentication attempt by user '<unknown>' from 'console' on 'con0_RP0_CPU0'
Having no way of accessing the box, I powercycled and it booted back into 7.1.2 with the username/password I had configured on first bootup. clearly it back in 7.1.2 as i didnt commit, in fact didnt even nmanage to login and see what was running ! not sure what i missed.....
2. im thinking perhaps i missed also upgrading the sysadmin vm, but cant find any info about that. from an 'admin show install repository', I can see there are packages for 6.6.3 in all three 'Admin, XR and host' respositories. Do I need to also activate packages in sysadmin and host VMs to complete the software upgrade of the box, or is this done automatically from the XR plane activation ? If not is this done in the same way as for XR, and any particular sequence is necessary, ie say sysadmin before XR ?
thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,
i have a suspicion, maybe you can check a backup configuration to confirm.
From 701 , new encryption type-10 (SHA512) is used by default for secrets in username configuration. Versions lower than 701 does not support type 10 encryption.
so if you have the type 10 passwords then downgraded, 6.6.3 would have issues logging in.
you will need to either.
1. remove all the type 10 passwords change them to type 5 before the downgrade
2. usb boot to 6.6.3 and manually re-add the configuration
Thanks

Hi Mark,
there shouldn't be anything special require to upgrade the admin plane/vm.
all the install/upgrade functions are done in the xr vm.
install add source harddisk:/ filename.tar
install activate id <> (id giving once first command completes)
unless something breaks again this should be able to upgrade the router
